Righteousness is something that is self-evident. It is obvious by the fruit of a person’s life if they have a righteous heart! The word “righteous” is a very expansive, multidimensional word. According to Hebrews 5:12-6:3, until a person is established in the foundations of the faith they are not ready to grasp and experience righteousness. Righteousness is what I call a heart word. Heart words are so key to grasping and being empowered by the gospel that they can never be intellectually grasped; they can only be understood by the heart!

Righteousness is something that is self-evident. It is obvious by the fruit of a person’s life if they have a righteous heart! While the root of righteousness is about belief, it cannot be separated from behavior. The righteousness of God is something that can only be seen in the life and character of Jesus. But all of this still doesn’t reveal the core of righteousness.

To be righteous means to be as one should be! It isn’t just moral and ethical character; it is also the quality of life in general. How should your life be if you are in Jesus? Since you have the life of God should you be happy, should you have peace, should you succeed at life, should you be kind, merciful and forgiving? How should your life be if all the promises of God are yours and you are free from all of the curses?

Righteousness is a gift given freely to all who believe on Jesus. So why then doesn’t every believer have a great life? Simple! The Bible tells us to yield to righteousness. If we do not choose righteousness and yield to it, it does nothing for our quality of life. This is a path we must all choose.
