The professional clergy may have made you feel unable to read and understand the Bible for yourself. But the truth is, that’s the only way you’ll ever really understand God. Unlike any that came before or since, Jesus showed us the true character, nature, and intention of God.
The most important thing He taught was that all the law, all the prophets, and every other word of God can only be understood and applied properly when our motive is love: love God, love people and even love ourselves. When we’re unsure of practical application all we need to do is look at the life, teaching, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and we can see what it looks like in application. All that’s left is to allow the Holy Spirit, your personal Teacher, to show you what He wants you to learn about applying it to your life.
