“My yoke is easy & my burden is light” (Mt. 11:30).

You Can’t Carry All Your StuffJesus said, “… it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God” (Mk. 10:25). Many believe this literally represents a sewing needle & how hard it would be for a camel to go through its eye. Others use the concept of a camel scooting on its knees through the small door of the city gates because the door is so narrow.

Either way, we understand this: they couldn’t go through carrying all their stuff. The idea of leaving all their valuables behind to unburden their camel is something most people wouldn’t do. The problem wasn’t so much the riches themselves; it was, according to Jesus, that they trusted in their riches, i.e., they trusted in their own way (wisdom, effort, & ability) to create a good quality of life!

Jesus said that if we’d yoke up with Him—harmonize our beliefs about God with His representation of God—life would be easy & light! If your trust is anything else, it’s impossible to enter the Kingdom of God on earth, but if you’ll unburden yourself from all the things you trust in & trust God, it’ll be easy to get through that eye of the needle. “With men it is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Mt. 19:26).
