When we embrace that which opposes Jesus we are unintentionally in rebellion to His Lordship!Everyone does what they do for their reason. There is no way to make a sweeping stereotype of any group of people. Most people just repeat what they’ve heard and never test it with God’s Word. Others like the idea of having an enemy to blame for their problem. “The devil made me do it” is the mantra of the spiritually-irresponsible. Some love the sensationalism. The most dangerous group who believes they are helping people is those who have made deliverance and warfare their ministry. Once it becomes a person’s ministry they are too emotionally invested to ever consider being wrong.

It really doesn’t matter why people exaggerate the power of the devil; what matters is the effect it has on our heart! First and foremost, it is in direct opposition to Jesus’ teaching, His ministry example and what was accomplished through His death, burial and resurrection. When we embrace that which opposes Jesus we are unintentionally in rebellion to His Lordship! God’s power and grace do not work to empower our vain imaginations. When vain imaginations lead us to a life that is not victorious we assume God has failed us.
