quote-for-blog-092216Sadly, the way we have been taught Scriptures, plus reading in the antiquated language of the King James Version of the Bible, often twists the simple truth. Here is a perfect example: If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love (John 15:10).

Religion taught us to read this and similar Scriptures to mean: by keeping the Commandments God will love us, but this is not at all what it’s saying. The Commandments are God’s prescriptions for walking in love. They tell us how to treat others just as God would do and we are abiding, living and expressing God’s love when our treatment of others is based on His Commandments.

There is more and more talk about love and kindness today, but very little of it is based on God’s Word; it’s based on secular humanism which actually opposes God’s Word. This increase in secular humanism, i.e. lawlessness will actually cause real love to grow cold.

God always loves us and when we allow that love to transform us and it becomes the basis of how we treat one another, God’s love is perfected in us. It changes us and those to whom we express it.
