Unless someone is using physical or emotional force to make you do what they desire, they are not really controlling you.One of the things we must do when we realize that many similar events are happening around us is: without condemning ourselves, we must realize that the common denominator in all these events is me. Sadly, many people cannot do that without condemning themselves. In fact, if considering that possibility causes condemnation that is the number one indicator that you have some negative personal perceptions.

One of the silver threads of truth woven through the majority of the parables that teach about Kingdom living is personal responsibility. Too often, we think of responsibility as taking blame. That always indicates a self-worth issue! Bing’s definition of responsibility is: accountable for something within one’s power, control, or management. This is in line with my understanding of responsibility: who has the ability to respond to this situation in a way that makes a difference?

Unless someone is using physical or emotional force to make you do what they desire, they are not really controlling you. We are usually controlled by our fear of taking responsible action. There is something we fear more than we fear being controlled, more than we fear giving up our choices. It can be as simple as the fear of conflict, fear of rejection or even the fear of being personally responsible for our choices.

The only pathway to freedom from being controlled is a journey into biblically-based self-worth, which will only happen when we align our perception with God’s. CLICK HERE to join me this week as we discuss I Think You’re Controlling Me, and discover God’s wisdom for finding freedom from control!
