Religion has created a false idea that we must wait or tarry for God.Religion has created a false idea that we must wait or tarry for God. The early church waited for the Day of Pentecost as the Lord commanded. On that day the Holy Spirit was poured out and the Church was born. It had been fifty days since the crucifixion, Jesus was in the grave 3 days and nights; He revealed Himself to His disciples for 40 days; so they actually tarried for 7 days. Some groups extrapolated a doctrine that says we must tarry or wait.

That concept has been carried over to present the idea that God only shows up at the last minute in any situation. It is as if we are saying, “God I’m here, but You’re not! I’ve done my part, but You haven’t!” This concept denies the Biblical model that God is proactive, He acts even before we call out. He is never late.

Isaiah 40:31 talks about what happens when we wait upon the Lord. The word “wait” is a term used for fixing a rope that is unraveling and has become weak. It means “to wrap or twist the strands around one another.” This verse isn’t telling us we have to passively wait for God; it is telling us to wrap ourselves around Him, become one with Him, and thereby experience His strength.

God has already given us everything that pertains to life and godliness; all that’s left is for us to wrap ourselves around Jesus and become one with His resurrection life in order to experience His life and strength. JOIN ME this week and let’s explore the Biblical concept of wrapping yourself around God and taking on His life and power!
