Keeping ourselves open to God is not as difficult as it has been made out to be. In modern terminology it comes down to one word: teachable. For God to lead us into His wisdom He must also teach us. When our heart is truly open to follow God He will infuse us with three things: We will experience where we are going, we will have a clear sense about what to do next, and we will experience the internal strength (grace) to take that step.
The person who is always ready to follow God will have what the Bible calls a “repentant attitude.” Repent means “a change of mind.” A person who is willing to be taught or willing to follow another will be humble. They are ready to surrender their opinions to God. They trust Him more than themselves. This is exactly what would happen in the Garden at the tree of life!
